The state of North Carolina is in the process of choosing a new assessment tool for pre-service teachers. As such, present education students of UNC Asheville are being assessed using a proposed tool, EdTPA. EdTPA consists of three main tasks: Planning for Instruction and Assessment, Instructing and Engaging Students in Learning, and Assessing Student Learning. This talk will cover how two educations students approached these tasks in two separate high school mathematics classrooms. The presenters hope that the audience will gain some insight into this new assessment tool, as well as see how teachers can improve student learning with the use of data in the classroom.
