The former CTS site, located on Mills Gap road, is currently an EPA Superfund site. There have been high levels of TCE and its derivatives detected in groundwater within a mile radius of the site. An EPA ‘Subsurface and Groundwater Sampling Report’ issued in 1991 reported elevated levels of trace metals in subsurface soils and another released in April of 2008 reported elevated concentrations of arsenic in the subsurface soils. This research further analyzes trace metal concentrations in water and sediments in neighboring streams. Sediment and suspended solid samples were prepared using acid digestion procedure and analyzed using Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy.
