In February of this year The North Carolina Governor made the shocking statement that “If you want to take gender studies that's fine. Go to a private school, and take it," McCrory said. "But I don't want to subsidize that if that's not going to get someone a job." This statement sparked outrage across the state, but in particular with those professors in liberal studies departments or who McCrory calls the "educational elite". I asked shortly there after to make a video about the comments made by McCrory and highlight the benefits of liberal studies programs and in particular Gender Studies.This documentary will be presenting some basic data and statistics revealing the employment possibilities of Gender Studies majors. The core of my film will be interviews with professors and students in liberal studies programs at UNC-Asheville combined with one’s from the business management department. My hope is that this documentary will present both sides of the argument equally and start a debate about how higher education in North Carolina.
