Ceramics and architecture have gone hand in hand for centuries. In ancient Mesopotamia they used sun dried river mud to form brick for all building projects1. My artwork adds to this tradition by taking these construction methods and applying them to the creation of abstract ceramic structures. These forms are unique in that they are created using hand thrown functional ceramic pots. These pots are thrown in the Greek amphora style, removed from their normal tabletop gravity bound context and stacked while wet to form architectural structures. These pots remain recognizable to maintain the close symbolic relationship people have with the pots they use, yet by changing their function they can also take on a new gravity defying identity.
