This research paper examines celebrity worship, the consequences associated with it and how detrimental these consequences can be for those involved. Celebrity worship can be measured using the Celebrity Worship Scale (CWS) created by McCutcheon et al. (2002). This scale helps categorize levels of celebrity worship by fans, and how such workshop affects their daily life. Two theories, parasocial theory and life-stage theory can be used to explain the cause of celebrity workshop and the personality types most often affected. Using pop culture phenomenon Justin Bieber as the celebrity, this paper will analyze tweets posted by Bieber's Twitter Followers. One day of tweets will be analyzed using the CWS. This content analysis should provide a better understanding of parasocial and life-stage theories.
