“If You Really Knew Me…” is an exhibit that seeks to communicate the reality rather than the stereotypes of the life of a teenage girl. The objects in this installation were created over several months in close collaboration with students from SOC 373, Listening Project, Asheville High School and William Randolph School who have been willing to share their experiences. Participants worked together in various settings and with various materials in order to create a coherent and deeply meaningful piece of art, meant to communicate the memories, perceptions and aspirations of young people who don't often have their voices heard. The piece itself takes the form of a young woman's bedroom; however, the furniture and décor has been constructed or altered in meaningful ways in order to convey our message.
